West Ham confirm Sonny Perkins departure as ‘disappointed’ Hammers hit out at agents

West Ham have announced the departure of academy talent Sonny Perkins following his rejection of a professional contract at the club. The 18-year-old made three first-team appearances for the Hammers before making the decision.

Due to West Ham’s part in his development, the club are set to receive compensation from wherever he may move to next. However, that fee may be less than they could have received for him in the transfer market, as well as taking more time through a potential tribunal hearing.

Perkins joined the Hammers at under-14s level, rising quickly through the under-18s and under-23s ranks. The young forward made his debut in last season’s Europa League, coming off the bench in the 78th minute in a 2-0 win away at Rapid Vienna.
