New West Ham signing Alphonse Areola says the love and support he received from the club’s fans last season while on loan was a major factor in his decision to rejoin the Hammers permanently this summer.
The France international goalkeeper put pen to paper on a five-year contract with a further one-year option on Monday, with West Ham paying PSG a reported £11million to acquire his services after several impressive displays under David Moyes last season.
Areola was primarily used as the club’s cup keeper where he helped West Ham knock out both Manchester United and Manchester City in the League Cup as well as progress to the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they lost to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt over two legs.
