West Ham confirm second summer signing as David Moyes lands goalkeeper Alphonse Areola from PSG

West Ham have completed their second signing of the summer transfer window by securing goalkeeper Alphonse Areola from PSG on a five-year deal with an option of a further year.

The French shot-stopper spent last season on loan at the London Stadium where he was primarily used as a cup keeper, keeping five clean sheets in ten Europa League matches as West Ham reached the semi-finals. The Hammers expressed an early interest in activating a buy option clause in Areola’s contract which they have now confirmed, paying a reported £11million fee.

A French international who was part of his country’s World Cup-winning squad in 2018, Areola is the West Ham’s second signing of the summer following the £30million arrival of Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd last week.
